Sri Jayachamarajendra College Of Engineering, conceived in 1963, is the dream child of Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamigalavaru, the 23rd pontiff of Sri Suttur Mutt. It comes under the aegis of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, which is the primary institution of many such institutions.

The Mahavidyapeetha’s vision was further carried forward by the 24th pontiff of Suttur Mutt, Sri Sri Sri Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji, its President. Under this management the college grew its campus, laboratories and faculty and became a lead institution of the JSS technical education system.
Acknowledging the infrastructural facilities, faculty and expertise that have been the hallmarks of the college, the Visvesvaraya Technological University conferred autonomous status to the college from the year 2007-08. The institution also has a reputation for academic excellence in professionally oriented programmes and equal proficiency in extra-curricular activities.
