Placement and Training

SJCE – Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering – was one of the most sought-after destinations amongst students. Located in the southern part of Karnataka, it attracted highly meritorious students from various parts of Karnataka and abroad. One of the reasons was its effort to get students placed in various organisations through campus placements organised by the Placement and Training Cell, bringing companies close to the campus and encouraging them to establish facilities for faculty and students.

Training for employability

The Placement and Training department took the initiative to provide adequate training to students so that they had better employability skills. Besides campus interviews, the centre organised:

• Mock interviews and group discussions
• Personality development courses and seminars
• Invited talks and road shows of prospective employers
• Skill tests to prepare students for tests and interviews

Internships that turn into jobs

Many companies offered full-time internships to PG students in their final year. After six months to one year of performance these internships could be converted into full-time employment. The most coveted internships involved multi-level selection with tough competition from colleges across India.

How the cell worked

In 2014 the centre was headed by a Deputy Director and supported by a Placement Officer and a Placement Co-ordinator. It arranged campus interviews by national and multinational companies and helped Heads of Departments place students for project work at industries and R&D organisations.
