Editorial Policy

This editorial policy explains how SJCE Mysore researches, writes, fact-checks, illustrates and corrects its content about SJCE Mysuru’s heritage, engineering education in Karnataka and India, and student life in Mysuru. Many readers use what they read here to make decisions about admissions, careers and moving to a new city, so we hold ourselves to clear standards of accuracy, independence and transparency. The site is run by SJCE Mysore (sjcemysore.org) and is not affiliated with SJCE, JSS Science and Technology University or JSS Mahavidyapeetha.

  • Primary sources first: official notifications, university and regulator publications, and documented historical records.
  • Every factual claim is checked before publication, and uncertain figures are described qualitatively rather than guessed.
  • No fabrication: no invented quotes, people, statistics or testimonials.
  • AI assistance is disclosed: AI tools may help with drafting, but every page is reviewed and fact-checked by a human editor before it is published.
  • Visible corrections: significant errors are fixed and noted on the page.
  • Licensed images only: our own images, public-domain images or Creative Commons images, with attribution.

Our editorial mission

We have three aims. First, to preserve the history of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, including information from its website as it stood around 2014, as a heritage record for alumni and researchers. Second, to explain engineering education in clear terms: how admissions work, what autonomy means for a college, programmes such as TEQIP, and research pathways after B.E. Third, to guide students and families who are considering studying in Mysuru. Throughout, we send readers to official sources for anything that is current and binding. Examples include the history of SJCE, our explainer on autonomous engineering colleges, and our KCET and COMEDK admissions guide.

Independence

  • We are not funded, directed or reviewed by any college, university, coaching institute or examination authority. No institution sees our articles before publication.
  • We do not accept payment to publish, rank, review or favour any college, coaching centre or product.
  • SJCE Mysore (sjcemysore.org) sells its own independent services, such as admission counselling and a placement bootcamp. Our articles may mention a relevant service briefly, but commercial considerations never change the facts or advice in an article. Service mentions are clearly identified as our own offerings.
  • If we ever publish sponsored content or use affiliate links, they will be clearly labelled at the top of the page and disclosed in our Disclaimer. At present we publish neither.
  • Writers and editors declare any personal connection to an institution or organisation they write about, such as studying or working there, and we disclose it on the page where it matters.

How we research: our hierarchy of sources

We rank sources by reliability and use the highest-ranked source available for each claim:

  1. Official primary sources: notifications and information bulletins from the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), COMEDK, AICTE, UGC, the Ministry of Education and the GATE organising institute; official publications of JSS Science and Technology University; Acts and Rules published in official gazettes; and World Bank and Government of India documents on programmes such as TEQIP.
  2. Institutional historical records: anniversary and jubilee reports, archived copies of institutional websites (including archived snapshots of sjcemysore.org) and official reports.
  3. Peer-reviewed research and reputable reference works.
  4. Established news organisations reporting on events, used with care and preferably confirmed by a second source.
  5. Community knowledge, such as alumni recollections or student experiences. We use it only for colour and context, label it clearly, and never present it as established fact.

We do not use anonymous forum posts, unsourced social-media claims or AI-generated text as a source of facts.

Fact-checking process

  1. Claim list: before publication, the editor lists every checkable claim in the draft: dates, names, figures, legal references, eligibility rules and URLs.
  2. Source verification: each claim is matched to a source from the hierarchy above. Claims that cannot be verified are removed, reworded qualitatively (“several”, “in the early 2000s”), or flagged with “check the latest official notification”.
  3. Dates and figures: fees, seat numbers, cut-offs and deadlines change every year. We publish them only with the year they apply to and a link to the official source. Otherwise we explain how to find them rather than quoting numbers that may be out of date.
  4. Link check: every external link is opened and confirmed to lead to the intended official or reputable page.
  5. Independence and tone check: the editor confirms that the page does not imply affiliation with any institution, does not overstate what our services can achieve, and uses neutral, factual language without hype.
  6. Final human sign-off: a human editor approves the page for publication and takes responsibility for it.

How we handle heritage and archived material

  • Archived information is labelled with the period it describes, for example “as listed on the college website in 2014”, so readers do not mistake it for current information.
  • When we present historical facts, we keep them as recorded and do not change their meaning. If later sources contradict an earlier record, we note the discrepancy rather than silently choosing one version.
  • Outdated contact details, office-holders and procedures are either removed or clearly marked as historical.
  • Where historical material belongs to an institution or author, we credit it, and we respond promptly to requests about it, as described in our DMCA & Copyright Policy.

Use of AI tools: our disclosure

We believe readers should know how content is made. SJCE Mysore may use AI writing tools to help with parts of the work, such as structuring an outline, producing a first draft, summarising long official documents, suggesting plain-language explanations or checking grammar. When we do:

  • A human is always responsible. Every article and page is reviewed, edited and fact-checked by a human editor before publication. Nothing is published automatically.
  • AI is never a source. Facts, dates, figures, names and quotations are checked against the primary sources described above, never accepted from an AI tool on trust.
  • No synthetic people or quotes. We do not use AI to invent experts, students, testimonials, quotations or statistics.
  • No AI-generated “photographs” presented as real. If we use an AI-generated illustration or diagram, it will be labelled as such and never presented as a photograph of a real place or event.
  • Personal data stays out of AI tools. We do not put readers’ or customers’ personal data into AI tools.

Writing standards

  • We write in clear Indian English for aspirants, parents, students and alumni, and explain technical terms and acronyms the first time we use them.
  • We separate fact from opinion. Analysis and advice are presented as such.
  • We avoid hype, rankings we cannot substantiate, and claims of “guaranteed” results.
  • We include a key-facts summary, a short FAQ and a list of sources at the end of major articles so readers can check our work.
  • We aim for content that is accessible to all readers, following our Accessibility Statement.

Images and licensing

  • Our own images: photographs we take in public places, and diagrams we create, belong to SJCE Mysore (sjcemysore.org) unless otherwise stated.
  • Wikimedia Commons and Creative Commons: some images are taken from Wikimedia Commons under licences such as CC BY, CC BY-SA or CC0, or are in the public domain. Each is credited with the author’s name, the licence and a link to the licence or source file, as the licence requires. Where we modify an image, for example by cropping or resizing, we say so when the licence requires it, and we share adaptations under the same licence where a ShareAlike licence applies.
  • Self-hosted: we store copies of licensed images on our own server rather than hotlinking, which also protects readers’ privacy.
  • Alternative text: informative images have descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked so that screen readers skip them.
  • No unlicensed images: we do not use images found through search engines without a clear licence. Images of identifiable private individuals are not used without consent.
  • Historical images: captions give the approximate date where known, so that old photographs are not mistaken for the present.

Updates and review cycle

Admissions guides are reviewed before each admission season. Other evergreen guides are reviewed at least once a year. Pages show a “last updated” date, and we update that date only when the content has actually been reviewed or changed. When official rules change mid-season, we update the affected pages as soon as possible after we confirm the change from an official source.

Corrections policy

We make mistakes, and we want to know about them. You can report an error by emailing hello@sjcemysore.org with the subject “Correction”, or through our contact form. Please include the page URL, the statement you believe is wrong and, if you can, a source.

  • We acknowledge correction requests within 48 hours and investigate them promptly.
  • Minor errors, such as typos, broken links or formatting, are fixed without a note.
  • Substantive errors, such as a wrong date, figure, name, eligibility rule or misleading statement, are corrected, and a dated correction note is added at the end of the article explaining what changed.
  • If a whole article proves to be fundamentally wrong, we will retract it and leave a short note saying why.
  • We do not quietly rewrite pages to hide errors.

Reader contributions and feedback

We welcome memories, photographs and documents from alumni and others connected with SJCE’s history. Contributions are verified before use, credited as the contributor wishes, and published only with the contributor’s permission and the rights to do so. We may edit submissions for length, clarity and accuracy. Feedback on articles is read by an editor, even when we cannot reply individually.
