SJCE Mysore is an independent information resource about the heritage of Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysuru, about engineering education in Karnataka and India, and about student life in Mysuru. The site is run by SJCE Mysore (sjcemysore.org) on the sjcemysore.org domain, which once hosted the college’s own website. We keep a heritage archive of that earlier site and build practical, independently researched guides around it. We are not SJCE, JSS Science and Technology University (JSS STU) or JSS Mahavidyapeetha, and we do not speak for them.
- What we are: an independent heritage archive and guide, operated by SJCE Mysore (sjcemysore.org).
- What we are not: an official college or university website. For official information, visit jssstuniv.in.
- What we cover: SJCE’s history from 1963, admissions explainers, branch choice, placements, research pathways, TEQIP, SJCE-STEP and life in Mysuru.
- How we work: primary sources, human fact-checking, visible corrections, and no invented quotes or statistics.
- How we are funded: through our own independent services, such as counselling, a bootcamp, mentoring, a tour and learning kits. We take no institutional funding.

Who we are
SJCE Mysore is published by SJCE Mysore (sjcemysore.org), Mysuru, Karnataka, India. We are a small independent team with an interest in engineering education and in Mysuru’s long tradition of learning. We write for engineering aspirants and their parents, current students, alumni of SJCE and its successor university, and anyone curious about how one of Karnataka’s older private engineering colleges grew from a single campus in 1963 into a university.
We are not employed by, funded by or acting for any college, university, examination authority or coaching institute. Our work is shaped by readers’ questions and by our editorial standards, not by any institution’s communications priorities.
Why this domain exists
For many years, sjcemysore.org was the online home of SJCE. Snapshots of that site, such as those kept by the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine from May 2014, record a lot of institutional memory: departments and programmes, the college’s vision and mission, its links with industry, its role in the World Bank–supported TEQIP programme, the SJCE Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park (SJCE-STEP), sports and amenities, and news from the time.
When the college became part of JSS Science and Technology University, it moved to the university’s website, and the old domain stopped being the official address. Old domains like this one are often taken over by unrelated or low-quality sites, which can mislead people who arrive through old links, bookmarks, alumni directories or citations. We took on the domain to do two things responsibly:
- Preserve the heritage: we keep an organised, readable archive of the information that SJCE’s website carried around 2014. Each item is clearly labelled as historical, so alumni, researchers and the curious can see how the college described itself at that time. See History, News archive, Documents and Gallery.
- Build an independent guide: we add new, carefully researched articles on engineering admissions, academics, careers and student life in Mysuru. Every article points readers to the official sources for anything current or binding.
Visitors who arrive here looking for the college’s official website are pointed to JSS STU’s official website at jssstuniv.in.
What we are not
SJCE Mysore is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, JSS Science and Technology University, JSS Mahavidyapeetha or any of their institutions, or with VTU, KEA, COMEDK, AICTE or UGC.
- We cannot process admissions, issue documents, answer queries about results or transcripts, or contact faculty on your behalf.
- We do not sell seats, take “donations” or “booking amounts”, or influence any allotment. Anyone claiming otherwise in our name is committing fraud.
- Information in our heritage archive describes the past and may be outdated.
For official information, visit JSS Science and Technology University at jssstuniv.in. For Karnataka engineering admissions, visit the Karnataka Examinations Authority or COMEDK.
A short timeline of SJCE
The timeline below is based on public sources, chiefly the college’s own Golden Jubilee report and published references on JSS STU. Fuller detail is in our long-form article History of SJCE Mysore: from 1963 to JSS Science and Technology University.
| Year | Milestone |
|---|---|
| 1963 | Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering is started in Mysore under JSS Mahavidyapeetha, inspired by Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji of Suttur Math. The college is inaugurated by Dr. T. M. A. Pai, the Manipal educationist. The library and the Physics and Mathematics departments are set up in the same year. |
| 1968 | The first batch of engineers graduates. Electronics and Communication Engineering is introduced; the college’s records describe it as the first such course in Karnataka. |
| 1974 | The college receives grant-in-aid status. |
| 1978–2004 | The range of programmes widens with Instrumentation (1978), Industrial and Production Engineering (1980), Computer Science and Engineering (1982), Environmental Engineering and Polymer Science and Technology (1987–88), Information Science and Engineering (2000), Biotechnology (2002) and Construction Technology and Management (2004). |
| 1988 | Silver Jubilee celebrations. |
| 1998 | Programmes are first accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) is established, and SJCE becomes one of its affiliated colleges. |
| 2000s | SJCE is selected for the first phase of the World Bank–supported Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP), and later for the second phase. It also receives TEQIP-III grants. |
| 2007–08 | The college is granted provisional autonomous status for 2007–08. The UGC then confers autonomy from 2008–09, later extended to 2019–20. |
| 2013–15 | Golden Jubilee year (2013–14), with a valedictory function on 31 March 2015. |
| 2014 | The snapshot of SJCE’s website at sjcemysore.org that forms the basis of our heritage archive. |
| 2016–17 | JSS Science and Technology University, established under a Karnataka state Act (the J.S.S. Science and Technology University Act, 2013), begins functioning, with SJCE’s campus and programmes forming its core. |
